The story of KOHE
KOHE was born out of curiosity.
Johan Rohtla, a biochemist and microbiologist by education, started working at Coffee People as a roastmaster in 2015. In 2017 he got an opportunity to study the chemical composition and properties of coffee. The main goal research project was to understand the chemical differences of beans with different origins. Out of curiosity Johan decided to perform a side experiment, using high quality specialty coffee to make some instant coffee.
The result of that experiment was so delicious, that it was obvious that we had to share it with the world. The discovered method made it possible to produce coffee, which had retained almost all of its original taste profile.
After that followed almost two years of work to fine tune the technology and build a brand around it. Now KOHE is here to change your opinion of instant coffee. Specialty coffee quality can reach your cup instantly, whether you are on a plane ride or at a hike.

What is KOHE
KOHE – translates to ’instantly’ in the Estonian language. We believe that that is how fast you deserve to get a cup of the highest quality coffee.
KOHE was born out of the desire to make specialty coffee accessible to more people. All it took was a discovery born out of curiosity and a small revolution with instant coffee. KOHE is proof that not all good things need to take time.
High quality and ethically responsible specialty coffee is conquering the hearts of more and more coffee drinkers around the world. In today’s busy life taking some time for yourself is a big luxury and often we cannot afford that time to visit our favorite cafe or spend 10 minutes to make a cup of filter coffee. Instant coffee on the other hand is like its name implies, instant – all you need is a cup of warm water.
The quality of instant coffee has been much lower compared to any other type of coffee. And with good reason. Most of the instant coffee is produced using the cheapest green beans, left over and cast aside from the rest of the industry. In order to make the most of the beans, the roasted coffee is boiled for extended periods of time, which increases the yield but removes anything tasty or healthy. The result is a cheap product, which strongly lacks in quality and taste.
Curiosity and a lucky chance lead us to discover a method to produce instant coffee, which preserves almost all of the characteristics of the original coffee brew. This enables us to use high quality ethically sourced specialty beans, the best expertise in roasting and professional brewing skills.
The result is a truly delicious and healthy instant coffee!
